The Magic of Autumn: Honoring the Equinox and Our Inner Witches
Hello, beautiful souls!
Sunday 9/22/24, marks the first day of my favorite season—Autumn! As we celebrate the Autumn Equinox, I feel a wave of gratitude wash over me for all the joys this season brings. There’s something so magical about the cool air, vibrant leaves, and cozy moments that come with this time of year.
I love watching the world transform as trees don their stunning coats of red, orange, and gold. The crispness in the air invites me to slow down, sip hot chai while snuggling in a blanket, and savor those precious moments watching the winds dance through Luna Garden. Autumn is a time of surrender, letting go, and reflection, reminding us of the beauty in change.
This season has always felt like a beautiful paradox—a time of depth, death, and transformation. It’s when the veils between worlds seem to thin, making it a perfect time to connect with our inner witch. I find myself drawn to the celebrations of Halloween and Samhain, where honoring our ancestors becomes a joyful ritual. Not to mention, it’s the season when I indulge in all the candy I can find—because who doesn’t need an excuse to eat an absurd amount of chocolate? 🍬
As I reflect on the significance of today, I’m reminded that this time of year also coincides with the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. It’s a moment to welcome new beginnings, celebrate sweetness, and reflect on the past year. I’ll miss dipping apples in honey with my kids this year as we embark on our 20th-anniversary adventure, but I carry those cherished traditions in my heart.
Autumn is not just about the leaves changing; it’s also a time when I feel the excitement of preparing for Thanksgiving—a special time for family gatherings and heartfelt gratitude. It’s a reminder to pause and appreciate all the beauty in our lives, from the laughter shared around the table to the warmth of family traditions.
As we embrace the Autumn Equinox, I invite you to pause and reflect on what you are ready to release and what you wish to nurture in this new season. To my sisters in the Southern Hemisphere, as you welcome the Spring Equinox—a time of rebirth and growth—the same ritual can guide you in honoring your new beginnings. a simple ritual to honor this magical time:
A Simple Equinox Ritual:
Find a Quiet Space: Light a candle to symbolize the balance of light and dark.
Reflect: Spend a few moments in stillness, placing one hand on your heart and the other on your belly. Breathe deeply, feeling the fullness of life and light, then exhale, releasing all that no longer serves you.
Gratitude and Release: Write down what you’re ready to let go of this season and what you are grateful for.
Let Go: Safely burn the paper with what you’re releasing as an offering to the season.
Welcome the New: Keep your gratitude list visible to remind you of what you’re nurturing this autumn.
