Unlocking the Magic of Music Meditation: A Healing Practice to Move Energy and Emotions
Discovering the Magic and Medicine of Music Meditation
Music has always been therapy for my soul. As a child, I would listen to certain songs on repeat—sometimes to learn the lyrics and sing into my hairbrush in front of the full-length mirror like a rockstar, sometimes because the music offered me something I couldn’t quite explain, but it soothed my soul and calmed my anxiety. Other times, I’d lie in my convertible with the seat back, gazing at the stars, using the music to process strong emotions. Now, as an adult, I turn to music meditations for the same healing power—allowing melodies to hold space for whatever I need to receive.
To this day, it moves me in the deepest way, offering healing exactly when I need it most. As a highly sensitive empath, I experience music in a way that touches my soul and moves energy within me. It’s such a gift, and I’ve found that music meditation is a sacred tool that can offer you the same healing, peace, and presence.
Music meditation is also a powerful way to work with energy. Everything is energy—emotion is energy in motion. If we don’t allow emotions to move through us, they can get stuck in the body, cozy up to our cells, and cause discomfort or dis-ease. Music Meditation offers a simple yet potent way to support the movement of energy through sound.
What is Music Meditation?
Music meditation is a practice of pausing, breathing, and allowing music to wash over you, creating space for messages, medicine, and magic to emerge. It’s an invitation to immerse yourself in sound and let it guide you inward, helping you connect with yourself on a deeper level.
What makes music meditation special is its flexibility—you can listen while lying down, sitting, walking in nature, driving in the car, or even doing the dishes. The key is the intention you set: to allow the music to move through you and receive what it’s offering.
How to Experience Music Meditation:
Set Your Intention
Choose a song that resonates with you, one that you’re drawn to or that feels aligned with your current emotions. Set the intention to allow the music to move through you and hold you as you receive its messages, medicine, and magic.Find Your Space
There’s no right or wrong way to experience music meditation. You can lie down, sit in a comfortable spot, go for a walk, or even wash dishes or fold laundry. What matters is that you’re present and open to receiving.Tune In and Breathe
As you begin, take a few deep breaths to get into your body and simply listen. Let the melody and rhythm move through your body. Thoughts will arise (because you’re beautifully human!), and when they do, gently return to your breath and the music.Allow Yourself to Receive
The magic of music meditation comes from being open to receiving. You might feel emotions, memories, or even physical sensations in your body. Allow the music to guide you, and if you feel called, stretch, or dance, use your voice to hum or sing along, letting the sound move you deeper.Embrace the Practice
Remember, music meditation is a practice, and it’s okay if you don’t sink into it right away. You can always begin again. The important part is showing up and allowing the music to do its work—moving you, holding you, and helping you release what’s ready to be released and receive what is ready to be received.
We All Receive Differently
A gentle reminder that we all receive music differently, and even as individuals, we may experience something different each time we listen. Some days you may feel deeply connected to a song, and other times, it may feel distant. That’s okay—music meditation meets you exactly where you are.
What’s most important is your intention to be present and open to whatever the song is offering you at that moment.
Moonday Music Meditations
Each Moonday, I send out an email—a short, sweet offering of a song and a story about what’s present for me around the song. It’s an invitation for you to explore and play with the song throughout the week, allowing it to move you and offer its golden threads.
Whether you listen once or every day of the week, during a morning meditation, or before bed, let the music be a source of healing and reflection. If you’d like to receive these emails, sign up here.
My Journey with Music Meditation
I’ve found that getting quiet and fully receiving music isn’t always easy. There are times when my mind is restless, and it takes a few tries before I can truly settle into the experience. But every time, I take a deep breath, restart the song if needed, and remind myself to receive the messages, medicine, and magic the song is offering.
Sometimes, that looks like sitting still and letting tears fall. Other times, it’s dancing barefoot in my living room or humming along as I wash dishes. No matter how I show up, it always feels worth it.
Music meditation reminds me to slow down, to listen, and to just be. It’s a practice, and each time I return, it feels more potent. I’d love for you to experience the same magic in your life.
